Health & Safety

Safety is everyone’s responsibility

Health and safety are a core value of Bouygues Construction Australia, and it is our paramount objective to ensure the health, safety and welfare of everyone involved in our operations.

Our positive safety culture is supported by a Just Culture framework that secures the participation and engagement of our workforce, ensures expectations and accountabilities are clearly defined, and that all our stakeholders are treated fairly and equitably.

Bouygues Construction Australia’s industry leading health and safety standards are underpinned by our Safety Cultural Program which aims to foster positive safety behaviours, worker engagement, risk awareness, transparency and accountability.

Bouygues Construction Australia is accredited by the Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner under the Australian Government Building and Construction OHS Accreditation Scheme and is certified to ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems Requirements.

These accreditations reinforce our ability to systematically manage health and safety risk, and our attainment of industry leading health and safety management standards.

Health and safety is a core value of Bouygues Construction Australia, and it’s our number one objective to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all persons involved in our operations.

It is important to demonstrate visible safety leadership and guarantee implementation of our safety standards.

Everyone has a responsibility to keep safety at the forefront of their minds – regardless of the team they are working in.

Ritchie Green - HSEQ Director

The Global Safety Essentials (GSE) are the performance standards for the management of our 15 critical health and safety risks. These company standards have been updated to incorporate the lessons learnt arising from high-risk potential (PC1) and severe incidents, which have occurred across our operations following a company-wide consultative review.

The objective of the GSEs is to eliminate all high-risk potential and severe incidents by mandating ‘Above the Line’ (engineering or above) controls, hence providing our system necessary resilience to eliminate these incidents. Persons responsible for the planning, coordination and delivery of works execution are accountable for developing construction methodologies which either meet, or exceed, the GSE performance standards.

The implementation of our GSEs is mandatory for projects operating under BYCA’s Health and Safety Management System (HSMS).
